PROGRAMS

PROGRAMS FUNDED BY THE MAHONING COUNTY BOARD OF MENTAL HEALTH & ADDICTION SERVICES:

Felony Drug Court is a grant-funded program designed to provide an option for individuals with a drug addiction facing potential jail sentence. The Felony Drug Court is overseen by the Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Individuals charged with a fourth or fifth degree felony may be eligible to participate in the Felony Drug Court Program.

Eligibility is based on each participant having the capacity to understand the requirements of the program and the willingness to participate in treatment. If the crime involves a victim, the victim must consent to allow the offender to be involved in the program. The program is designed to divert individuals away from jail, prevent homelessness and coordinate appropriate substance abuse treatment. A variety of services are available to meet the participant’s specific needs, including counseling, residential and IOP aftercare. The program incorporates support and rewards as incentives for compliance. The presiding judge, prosecutor or an individual’s attorney can make referrals.

Felony Veterans Court is a grant-funded service designed to provide an option for military veterans with a severe mental illness and/or substance abuse facing potential jail sentences. The Felony Veteran’s Court Program is overseen by the Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Individuals charged with a fourth or fifth degree felony may be eligible to participate in the Felony Veteran’s Court Program.

Eligibility is based on each participant having the capacity to understand the requirements of the program, the willingness to participate and to take medication as prescribed. Exclusions include individuals with a lengthy criminal record or a sex offense charge. If the crime involves a victim, the victim must consent to allow the offender to be involved in the program. The Felony Veterans Court is designed to divert individuals away from jail, prevent homelessness, and coordinate appropriate mental health treatment. A variety of services are available to meet the participant’s specific needs including counseling, psychiatric care, and intensive case management. The program incorporates support and rewards as incentives for compliance. The presiding Judge, Prosecutor or an individual’s attorney can make referrals.

Misdemeanor Veterans Court is a grant-funded service designed to provide an option for military veterans suffering from a traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder or related issues that have led to behaviors resulting in criminal charges. The Misdemeanor Veterans Court is overseen by the Youngstown Municipal Court.

The goal of the Youngstown Municipal Veteran Treatment Court is to provide necessary treatment, including mental health counseling and substance abuse treatment support and services to veterans involved in the criminal justice system so they may obtain and maintain stable, law-abiding and healthy lives; thereby becoming positive and productive members of our community.

Rescue Mission Consultation is provided by contract with the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board to residents and staff of the Rescue Mission Mahoning Valley. This service is designed to provide on-site assessment, brief counseling, referral to the appropriate agency or service and crisis intervention to individuals and residents at the Rescue Mission, along with support and education to the staff at the Mission.
